Recently the Mississippi Museum of Art's "Mapping A Modern Mississippi" project came to Ocean Springs to recognize and document the innovative work of some community trailblazers. We are so very proud of Ocean Springs Founder Vicki Applewhite for being recognized along with two other Ocean Springs community innovators, Kait Sukiennik and Jessie Zenor! More details from the Sun Herald below:
"Anik Kurkjian, MMOA’s creative director, and her partner, Julian Rankin, take a van called Max The Modern Machine throughout the state to collect stories of artists, small business owners and anyone else thought to be modern doers.
Vicki Applewhite, Kait Sukiennik and Jessie Zenor were some of the innovative Ocean Springs residents interviewed during the van’s recent visit to the city.
Applewhite participated because of her risk-taking role in creating Ocean Springs Live, a company that produces a family-friendly concert series during the summer. Applewhite uses her own money to produce the concerts without aid from the city.
“I consider it to be an investment in our community,” Applewhite said.
